Omar Faruk Tekbilek is one of the foremost Middle Eastern musicians in the world. His musical mastery of assorted instruments includes nay (or ney), zurna, oud, keyboards, several percussions, as well as many others.
In 1976 Faruk and his brother-in-law, Ibrahim Turmen, a very talented darbuka player, formed The Sultans Middle Eastern Band. Other members included Egyptian Sherif Sarakby performing keyboards and accordion, and Greek Nick Mouganis performing bouzuki, guitar, and bass.
In 1985 Faruk's brother Hadji performed on Volume 3 of The Sultans - an ethno-carbaret album. In 1987 Sherif left the group and Amine Khoury with his brother Raymond joined The Sultans.
Over the years The Sultans released five dynamic recordings. "The Best Of The Sultans" captures and enchances their best performances as they were remastered for this CD recording.
